Phoenix Science Fiction Classics is a series designed for students reading classic science fiction texts like Shelley's Frankenstein, Wells' The Time Machine, Doyle's The Lost World, Burroughs' The Princess of Mars, and many more. The upcoming line-up includes titles by Jules Vernes and A. Merritt amongst others. Paul Cook, the series editor, has a Ph.D. in English and has taught a wide array of literature courses at Arizona State University during the last 25 years. His own published works include eight science fiction novels. Great attention has been paid in making the books friendly to students. This includes very attractive pricing as well as design features such as special margins on each page that gives students ample room to take notes on the book itself. The series has a distinctive look and feel. The books currently planned are generously sized trade paperbacks (6.69 inches by 9.61 inches) with high quality paper, but still priced lower than most mass-market paperbacks. Each book includes annotated text, critical essays (many titles also carry articles adapted from Alexei and Cory Panshin's Hugo winning study of science fiction The World Beyond the Hill), chronologies, bibiligraphies and a list of science fiction resources. |
